       IRO is a vocational program in which the school and the business community cooperate to provide training for students in various occupations.

 

CREDIT:

 

You will receive:

        .5 credit for 135 hours of approved work per semester

        .5 credit for an additional 135 hours per semester

        .5 credit for classroom instruction completed per semester

 

Therefore, if you work 270 hours each semester, you get an extra .5 credit.

 

MAJOR COURSE GOALS:

 

Students will . . .

        Demonstrate their ability to succeed in the world of work, at home, and in the community, and will learn Workplace Skills.

 

TEXT:

       

        The assigned text Succeeding in the World of Work, Glencoe Publishing Co. will be used in conjunction with various class sets of work packets and handouts.

 

MATERIALS NEEDED:

 

        Textbook, pencil/pen (blue or black), folder, planner, and paper.

Bring bold items DAILY.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

        Job, check stubs, completion of 135/270 work hours per semester, all state required paperwork, completion of all projects.

 

CLASSROOM RULES:

 

        Student handbook rules will be enforced (i.e. tardies, absences).

        Gum, candy, food and drink are not allowed.

        Keep your head up, pay attention, no makeup sessions, no electronic

        devices.

        You will be held responsible for your desk area—keep it free from      wrappers, vandalism, or anything that should not be on it. If anything      is on it when you enter the room, tell me so you are not considered         responsible.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

 

1.    Students are responsible for making up work after absences.

2.    Students who are absent from school will not receive credit for hours worked on the job for days of absence.

3.    Tardies will be issued to students not in their seats when the tardy bell rings.

4.    The policies set forth in the district Training Agreement for IRO students will be enforced.

 

GRADING:

 

        Classroom Grade

 

                Your grade will be determined from your workplace CLASS evaluation, tests/quizzes, and projects, all based on a point system.

 

        Employment Grade

 

                Job Performance                                                 100%

                You will be graded by your employer on the job.

 

        GRADING SCALE:

 

        A      93-100%    Student completes all assignments, does A

                                work, demonstrates high effort, and is

                                attentive in class.

        B      86-  92%   Student does above average work, shows good

                                effort, and is cooperative in class.

        C      78-  85%   Student does average work, shows good effort,

                                and is cooperative in class.

        D      70-  77%   Student does below average work, shows little

                                effort in class, may be uncooperative in class.

 

STATE DOCUMENTS:

 

          Bring in a copy of your birth certificate and social security card for verification of age, and right to work. You will also fill out a Training Agreement which requires the signature of your parents, your boss, yourself, and the school coordinator (your IRO teacher).

 

JOBS:

 

          All students must be employed by the end of the fourth week of classes. Any student that is unemployed at that time will be placed in study hall after their last class of the day. The student will have study hall until he/she shows proof of employment.
